Coming back from winter vacation?

by | Balance for Educators

My intention for 2023 is to help you live your BEST life. As an educator, and as a human being. I’ll be going LIVE over on Instagram on Saturdays at 10am (Eastern) this year, to help us build a community of educators, supporting one another and growing together.

I’ve been in education as a teacher for over 20 years now. I also love to empower and support educators in finding balance in their lives.

So what do I mean when I say “Balance for Educators”?

Well, to start, balance looks different for everybody. It’s also going to be different every single day, as it’s dependent upon what’s happening around us and what’s happening in our lives.

This week, we’re coming back from that long winter vacation and I’m wondering how you’re doing?

Share your thoughts, tap reply and let me know.

I know it can be tough sometimes. After we settle into a routine of slowing down in our mornings, going at our own pace.

I know that I enjoy that for sure!

I posted a reel on Instagram (watch it here) a few days ago that spoke to that – settling back into the school week, after the winter vacation. It was meant to be funny, but also real.

It takes a little while to settle back in and what I shared in the text of that reel was that I tried to meet myself exactly where I am.

And that’s what I want you to do. To meet yourself where you are coming back from the winter vacation. Consider as well that whatever we’re feeling… our students are probably feeling too and everyone around us – our colleagues.

Taking that into consideration is an important step on how we can move forward.

From my experience, I try to have conversations with my students about where they are with easing back into the school week after a long vacation.

I invite you to consider how you can meet yourself where you are, as well as how to meet others where they are.

And to adjust and get creative – that’s what we do as teachers, right?

We’re creative in our planning!

Also consider what was it about your winter vacation that you really enjoyed and how can you incorporate that into your life… now that you’re back at school?

Were there certain things that you did for yourself that you really thought like,

“Oh, I’m gonna miss doing that.”

Why do you have to miss doing it?

Is there a way that you can bring it right along with you into the new year?

If you discovered some things over your vacation about what you need to do for yourself, it would be super useful to incorporate them into your day, when you go back to school.

Maybe it was that you rested a little bit more – can you make that your intention?

“Moving forward, I’ll make sure that I get enough rest and create a new routine for that time or finding some time to take a nap”… that is self support right there.

Did you find that you were able to get outside and move more and you wish you could do that more?

Can you carve out five to 10 minutes to do that… short little snippets of time can be so supportive for us.

There are so many different ways that we can support ourselves and I am ready to meet YOU exactly where you are at, and support you in finding your best way to find balance in your life.

Looking forward to connecting with you more and more throughout this year.
