Teacher Joy Box

by | Balance for Educators

Do you ever start feeling down as a teacher wondering if you’re even making an impact?  I think we’ve all been there.

Sometimes I get into those spots where I feel myself in a funk, particularly around this time of year when students and teachers alike are feeling Spring fever and everything feels stressful.

I have frustrating days when I wonder if I’m getting through.

I allow myself to feel all my feelings and maybe even vent a little to a trusted colleague or friend.  But then I know that I am the only one who can get me out of that spiral of frustration.

Well…maybe not the only one. teacher joy box

Uplifting words and memories often do the trick to help me accentuate the positive and know that I absolutely make a difference.  When I need a little pick me up and reassurance, I go to what I call my “Teacher Joys Box.”  The box itself was given to me by a friend and colleague for my birthday one year.  Check out the awesome message on the lid – the uplifting starts right there!

teacher joy boxInside this box I keep all the sweet notes, cards, emails, etc that have been given to me by students, parents, and colleagues over the years.  The words that I find there feel new every time and give me the inspiration I need.  No matter how many times I read them, they always bring a smile to my face and help me to remember to focus on the bright spots.  After meeting myself exactly where I am and then diving into these “teacher joys,” I feel more balanced and ready to meet each new moment.

What’s your go-to pick me up for those days when you need it?  Hit reply and share with me or pop it into the comments.  I would love to hear from you!
